I started tattooing in 1993 by serving a traditional apprenticeship in a typical East Coast "street shop", after being encouraged by my brother, Adam.

With a very limited background in art, i naturally found the technical aspects of the trade more inviting, so almost immediately after being handed my first tattoo machines I began dissasembling them in hopes of finding out what made them work.

Thus began my interest in machine building and tuning.  I started out by building and tuning machines for co-workers and friends, soon began "small run" iron castings, and eventually spent some time working closely with Aaron Cain on various collaborative projects

This passion for building and tuning ultimately led me to co-found workhorse irons with my partner, BJ  "SOBA" Johnson, almost 10 years later.

These days, I am tattooing Fridays and Saturdays by appointment, at Read Street Tattoo, and building tattoo machines during the rest of my work week.
